Matthew Del Rosso Honors US History (2) 08 March 2016 The Big Stick’s Achievements During presidency, the president is known to carry many duties under their belt. Some go wrong, while the majority has turn into major historical accomplishments. Some of the accomplishments have affected the country for many years and on. As many presidents have achieved their duties beyond expectation, Teddy Roosevelt was one of the outstanding presidents who have done so. Teddy has a long list of his accomplishments, but there are five that have sent him above all. Teddy Roosevelt was always fascinated with nature. His first important achievement was the beginning of the National Park System. He was very set upon keeping the Earth clean. Roosevelt saw how Americans were inadvertently killing the Earth with pollution, so he got together with preservationists and solved the problem. The first feeble step toward conservation had been taken with the Desert Land Act of 1877, under which the federal government sold arid land cheaply on t he condition that the purchaser irrigate the thirsty soil within three years. This was important in the overall project because it got the ball rolling and opened many Americans eyes to the growing issue of pollution. However, More successful was the Forest Reserve Act of 1891, authorizing the president to set aside public forests as national parks and other reserves.
